Hand Scraping

All of our scraping is done to our customers specifications. We make our knives specific to meet our customers desired look. We have several looks that have been popular, but we strive to make every customer's floor, the floor that they have invisioned. Whether a wide smooth knife mark. a sharper rounded knife mark, or a squared off hand hewn look, we will meet your needs. We offer all of our scraped floors raw, or prefinished.

Hand Eased Edges
We ease all of our floors edges by hand with a block plane for the hand crafted look that a moulder or shaper cannot achieve. This process leaves the edge "chippy" or slightly uneven, instead of crisp and perfect. This is one of the main features of our floors that leads to the authentic "olde world" look, and is truly a handcrafted wood floor. We offer either a 45 degree chamfer or an 1/8th round over. It is up to the customer to choose the depth of cut for there desired look.

Square Plugs

Square plugs are a feature that add so much to the look of the finished product. A true "olde world" look of the craftsman. We generally use 1/2" end grain plugs of the same species.wood. They stand out, but not too much.

Foot Worn

Standing on a floor visibly worn by centuries of foot traffic can make one feel linked to the past. Pockets, undulations, dips and softened edges in a wide plank floor speak of centuries of wear and a certain depth of character.

Useing handheld planes to scrape the surface and edges of each individual board. We study each board, and, taking into consideration the many directions of the grain as well as knots, scrape the wood with multiple starts and stops down the entire length. Once the scraping is complete, we hand sand the entire surface of the boards.

Hit or Skip

Our skilled craftsmen fully understand the true meaning of the look of these floors, and are committed to painstakingly distressing each board by hand. This is the only way to create the traditional look which cannot be replicated when mass produced by machines. They labor over each individual board, carefully hand-working the wood using tools that would have been used when building the first homes in this country.
